» The "Chicago Journal" says that we must, in these days of wonders, be surprised at nothing. But when should we be surprised, if not in the days of wonders?

1860 Bible

This bible was donated to PrenticeNet by the Carroll County Genealogical Society (of Carroll Co., MD)

title page Holy Bible, Old and New Testaments, printed in Philadelphia in 1860. Includes many pages of hand-written records. It looks like it was given to Henrietta Driggs by her grandmother (Reed). Henrietta Driggs was married to Andrew Morgan Prentiss (#280), son of Henry James (#203) and Sarah Prentiss. Henry was the son of Henry (#103) and Mary Prentiss. There are records that go back to Henry and Mary (aparently pages from other bibles). Henry was the son of Joshua (#52) and Grace. Joshua was the son of Joshua (#21), mentioned above. Joshua was the son of Henry (#9), who was the son of Solomon (#3), who was the son of Henry (#1).

• Looking for Jarvis B. Prentice, Civil War vet from Illinois Reg't, lived in Galesburg or was from around there. I have his CW discharge papers, and am sure he's family, but I can't place him. A contemporary of Homer Prentice (1836-1921) -- his brother? Homer was the son of Junius Cicero Prentice (1803-1846) and Abagail Skinner, and was my great-grandfather. Did Junius Cicero and Abagail have any other children? I have no record of any, which seems odd to me.

• My family is searching for facts about the family of Lucy A. Prentice, born in No. Stonington, CT and married at Norwich, CT in 1854 to George H. Webb formerly of Canada. They apparently moved to Canada before 1859, as my grandfather, Francis M. Webb, was born in Canada that year. Her dates don't match any families that we could find in the records.
