» The "Eastern Argus" undertakes to defend the integrity of a high officer of the Government by alleging that, though he has been in office for years, he is still a poor man. That's no rule. Calvin Edson, the living skeleton, used to eat ten pounds of meat per day. The more he gobbled, the more he wouldn't get fat.

By G.D. Prentice, Editor of the Louisville Journal, 1860.

• I am descended (great grandson) from James Reid Prentice, born in Gadgairth, Ayrshire, in 1851, the son of Alexander Prentice and Marion Reid, brother of William, John, Lizzie and Sarah. He emigrated to New Zealand on the ship "Timaru" in 1879. He died in Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1936. I am after any information on Scottish and possible English connections prior to his emigration.
