» There are four or five Democratic editors in this vicinity whose abuse amuses us not a little. If one assails us, all the rest stand ready to sustain him by furnishing him with the necessary falsehoods and copying his Billingsgate. They remind us of the habit of rats. It is said that a string of some half dozen of these vermin will hold each other up by the tail to enable the lowermost to steal an egg from the bottom of a barrel.

By G.D. Prentice, Editor of the Louisville Journal, 1860.

• I'm searching for JAMES PRENTISS. His grandson DONALD LEE PRENTISS is a friend of mine. His grandfather had two sons, JAMES Jr. and CHARLES EUGENE PRENTISS. Charles is Donald's father, who passed away July 12, 1990 in Columbus Ohio. Donald was told his granfather had been in and out of prison, possibly the Ohio Penitentiary. James Jr. is also deceased, he passed away before his brother. Charles had 10 children with his wife Magdelena, in Columbus Ohio. WILLIAM EUGENE PRENTISS the oldest son of Charles passed away December 18, 1988. As far as Donald knows he is the oldest male Prentiss still alive from his grandfathers decedants. He has no other information about his grandfather, therefore we have no idea where to begin searching. My next step is the Ohio Historical Center and the State Library. If you could assist us with any information we would greatly appreciate it.
